Interests
The Experimental Area in Diseases of Large Cultures aims to: Support the subjects of Phytopathology and the other disciplines of the DFF; Train students in the diagnosis of diseases; To study measures for the management of diseases affecting large cultures. The evaluations are constituted by the diagnosis, incidence and severity of the diseases, reaction of varieties to the diseases, spacing effect, fertilization and crop rotation on the diseases. The agricultural crops maintained in the area are: rice, corn, beans, soybeans, wheat, barley, oats, cassava, potatoes, canola, cotton, peanuts, sugar cane, sunflower, and sorghum.
The works are conducted by student monitors in the Special Phytopathology discipline and academic volunteers, with the collaboration of all Phytopathology Professors.
Students are responsible for the following activities in conducting the field: Conduct soil analysis, correction and fertilization according to needs; Plant planning, planting and management; Assist in obtaining and maintaining seeds and inputs; Monitor and evaluate the occurrence of diseases; Make the diagnosis of diseases; Catalog diseases by means of slides, photographs and desiccans with typical symptoms and signs; Present the results.
