The Graduate Program in Agronomy – Plant Production (PGAPV) was approved by the University Council of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) on June 9, 1994, under Resolution No. 08/94-COUN, initially offering a Master’s degree program, followed by a Doctoral program one year later. In June 1997, PGAPV was accredited and recommended by the Technical Advisory Group of CAPES under reference number CAA/GTC/040. In the 2007–2009 evaluation, the program was upgraded from level 4 to level 5. In the most recent evaluation (2017–2020), it was classified as level 6.
Currently, PGAPV has three research areas: Plant Protection and Environmental Safety; Plant Physiology, Morphogenesis, and Biotechnology; and Plant Production in Sustainable Agriculture. The program includes 20 permanent faculty members and 4 collaborating faculty members who supervise and co-supervise more than 70 graduate students. Since 1996, over 600 dissertations and theses have been defended.
PGAPV celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024, marked by a commemorative event featuring lectures by alumni and tributes to former coordinators who contributed to the development of the program.
