Nature, perspectives and objectives of plant breeding. Domestication of cultivated species. Genetic variability and its conservation. Reproductive systems. Introduction of quantitative genetics. Plant breeding for selfbreeding species. Plant breeding of crossbreeding species. Breeding for resistance to diseases, insects and abiotic stresses. Biotechnology for plant breeding: molecular markers and transgenic plants. Evaluation and register of improved cultivars. Genotype x environment interaction. Production of seeds for improved cultivars. Plant breeding rights.
