Origin, history, and importance of agricultural pests and the current scenario; Review of major pest groups affecting crops, with emphasis on fruit production; Damage assessment and quantification; Ecological factors and population dynamics; History and fundamentals of Integrated Pest Management (IPM); Advantages and disadvantages of IPM; Causes of pest outbreaks; Pillars of IPM; Taxonomy; Sampling and monitoring of pests – new techniques and trends. Sampling – damage thresholds, forecasting, and control. Damage – damage assessment, economic thresholds, types of damage, yield losses. Control methods: chemical control; Biological control – types of biological control, use of predators, parasitoids, and pathogens. Plant resistance to insects; Cultural methods and environmental interference – physical modifications of the environment, good agronomic practices. Semiochemicals and behavioral control techniques. Legislative methods. Development of IPM techniques and programs in fruit production. The future of IPM in light of new technologies (Genetics, Artificial Intelligence, Agriculture 4.0, sustainable pest control).
