Content:

Origin, history, and importance of agricultural pests and the current scenario; Review of major pest groups affecting crops, with emphasis on fruit production; Damage assessment and quantification; Ecological factors and population dynamics; History and fundamentals of Integrated Pest Management (IPM); Advantages and disadvantages of IPM; Causes of pest outbreaks; Pillars of IPM; Taxonomy; Sampling and monitoring of pests – new techniques and trends. Sampling – damage thresholds, forecasting, and control. Damage – damage assessment, economic thresholds, types of damage, yield losses. Control methods: chemical control; Biological control – types of biological control, use of predators, parasitoids, and pathogens. Plant resistance to insects; Cultural methods and environmental interference – physical modifications of the environment, good agronomic practices. Semiochemicals and behavioral control techniques. Legislative methods. Development of IPM techniques and programs in fruit production.
